Your brand is renowned for its distinctive and playful prints. What makes
print such a timeless element in design?
I love this question. I'm fascinated by the history of art and print, which spans cultures and centuries. Woodblock printing, one of the earliest forms, dates back to the sixth century in China, though it's often associated with India. From its origins, print has been a powerful tool for storytelling and expression, a purpose it still serves today.
Process
What is your process for creating the unique prints that define your brand?
A print collection often starts taking shape over a year before its launch, with inspiration coming from various sources, especially travel. For instance, our Remy Dabs print was inspired by a visit to Saint-Paul asylum in France, where Van Gogh created many masterpieces. Closer to home, I'm continually drawn to classic East Coast Americana and its enduring influence on design.
Tips
What are some of the best ways to incorporate prints and bold colors
into any space?
Everyone always assumes that our customer is a ‘more is more’ devotee because of my style, but we see our community incorporating Katie Kime in a whole range of equally inspiring ways. Some might cover their bedroom in our American Daisy wallpaper with bold high-gloss accents and Cheetah print in their en suite bathroom. Others may add a touch of boldness with a printed tray on their coffee table or an ice bucket in their bar area. We're here to inspire and empower all kinds of self-expression, no matter the scale.
Inspiration
Are there any Instagram accounts that you enjoy and would recommend we follow?
Rick Rubin for sure. He deletes all of his posts after 24 hours, which is interesting, so I'm always taking screenshots. Also, | love Kelly Wearstler's pov and how she is always 100% herself in her content.
Collaborate
If you could collaborate with any artist or designer, who would it be and why?
Ralph Lauren. He's built an inspiring world of design centered on a distinct point of view. We both share a love for classic Americana, and a collaboration between RL's timeless style and Katie Kime's playful, bold colors would be epic.
