Mission
What Inspired the Founding of Foster Angels, and How Has the Mission Evolved over the Years?
Foster Angels of Central Texas traces its roots to 1999, when co-founder Ted Oakley, motivated to help foster children, walked into a CPS office in Corpus Christi and asked what kids needed. After fulfilling their requests, Ted founded Foster Angels of South Texas. In 2010, Ted's daughter, Sarah, recognized similar needs in Central Texas and launched Foster Angels of Central Texas. Since then, we've improved our services with streamlined, efficient processes to better support foster families.

Can You Give Us Insight Into the Types of Resources, Programs, or Activities That Foster Angels Provides?
Foster Angels supports foster kids by meeting basic needs—like clothes, beds, and food—and offering opportunities like camps and activities. We also help youth aging out of care with rent assistance to aid their transition to independence.

We send kids to summer camps, support after-school activities like sports and clubs, and provide needed supplies or tutoring. We also offer scholarships for higher education and help young adults purchase their first car for reliable transportation.

Our Guide to Thrive program supports youth aging out of foster care until age 26, offering rent assistance and guidance to help them plan for independence and achieve stability.

Our main goal is to share our mission, and we love when supporters organize gift card drives at their offices, with friends, or family. Extra gift cards make a huge impact, helping kids shop for clothes or enjoy a meal out with friends, bringing joy and independence to their lives.
